Tommy Robredo has won for the first time John Isner

Robredo, Feliciano and Dolgopolov shine in their debut

21 October 2014

The second day of 'Valencia Open 500 ATP World Tour' has been marked by three names, Tommy Robredo, Feliciano Lopez and Alexandr Dolgopolov, who have been released in this year's tournament with victories authoritarian, especially in the case of Catalan and Ukrainian.

Robredo was fighting a 'black beast', John Isner, seeded fifth and one of the men called to go far in the competition. Until today, the American had ever won in their respective crosses, three in total, two of them this year at Roland Garros and Beijing. A key has been to counter the great service Isner, to the point that Tommy has scored more points in this respect than its rival: 72-66% of first serve points and 91-76% in the second. Furthermore, Robredo has saved five balls 'break' has had Isner. His opponent in the second round will be Yen-Hsun Lu, who arrives after defeating Guillermo García-López.

Meanwhile, Feliciano has displayed his greater experience and level with Norbert Gombos, from the previous phase. They had never faced, but the difference in ranking between them (15/136) indicated the difficulties that Slovak is found. 'Feli' has been shown to be safe and now will star with Pablo Carreño, a Spanish duel in the last 16.
