Joao Sousa, champion of Valencia Open!
Joao Sousa has won the Final of Valencia Open after a very difficult match against Roberto Bautista. Sousa won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Bautista needed medical care in the break between the first and the second set.
"It was a physical thing, my level was low and I needed more legs in the end of the match. I had finish the last matches too late and last week I played another Final. It has been a very long season and in the end of the match I was dead and he was player better than me. I was dissapointed with myself because I saw I dind't have the level to continue playing. I played three or four tournaments more than I would like this season and now I want to take a break", Bautista said.
Roberto Bautista also talked about Valencia Open: "It is a very special tournament. If the next year it is impossible to do in valencia I hope the next years will bring it back. What I would like the most was win here, in Valencia".
Sousa said: "I didn't start the match as I would like to. Roberto was so solid in the beginning but after you can saw that he was so tired after all the week. I made mistakes at the beginning, but I change my game and I had success". The tennis player also remembered another Finals: "I lost five Finals and I think I deserve to win this one". He also said "I am so happy with the surprise my famimly did to me (they came from Portugal by car to make a susprise to him), I didn't expected nothing."
At the end, Sousa explained his happiness: "I couldn't ask more than end the year winning, I am so happy with this title and with the work my team has done. I'm ambitious, but also realistic, I still have a lot to improve as tennis player. This year when I came to the Valencia Open I told my coach I was going to be very happy here, and it has been like I said. It's a spectacular tournament and it will be a sad if we don't have this tournament next year".
