29 September 2015

Ferrer leads a field of players with names such as Feliciano Lopez, Robredo, Baptist, Verdasco, Tomic, Bellucci, Fognini and Chardy, among others.

The tournament will be held in the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias from October 24th to November 1st, 2015.

Tickets are already available from 10 euros.

The official list of players participating in the Valencia Open 2015 is already out. This year’s edition will have some of the major players of the national and international scene taking part, including eight of the top 30 in the world ranking. Among the players born in Spain there are names such as David Ferrer, top seed, Tommy Robredo, Feliciano López, Fernando Verdasco, Roberto Bautista y Guillermo García-López. International players include names like Bernard Tomic, Thomaz Bellucci, Fabio Fognini, Jeremy Chardy and Nick Kyrgios, among others. The 'wild cards' will be announced shortly.

The bulk of the ‘Armada’, always present in Valencia

Once again, the bulk of the Spanish ‘Armada’ will not miss the tournament. It is led by David Ferrer, winner of 3 ATP titles this season. The player from Alicante has won the tournament on three occasions (2008, 2010, 2012) and was a finalist in two other (2005, 2013), taking into account the six editions played on clay at the Valencia Tennis Club between 2003 and 2008 and the six hard surface editions in the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias from 2009 to today. Feliciano Lopez will be another big name to watch out for. Currently 16th in the world raking, he has four titles and this year was a finalist at Quito and reached the quarter-finals in three Masters 1.000 tournaments: Indian Wells, Cincinnati and US Open. Tommy Robredo’s presence should also be highlighted, and he will be in the running to win the title, especially after last year's historic final against Murray. Other appealing players of the 'Armada', also participating in the tournament, include Fernando Verdasco, Roberto Bautista y Guillermo García López.

Tomic, Chardy and Fognini lead the list of foreign players

In addition to the Spanish players, the tournament counts with a series of top level international players. Bernard Tomic (20th in the world ranking) will make his second appearance at the Valencia Open after having participated in the 2013 edition. Furthermore, foreign players like Jeremy Chardy, Fabio Fognini, Nick Kyrgios, Benoit Paire, Sam Querrey and Martin Klizan, along with other great names from the international scene, have also confirmed their participation.

Juan Carlos Ferrero, satisfied with the list of players

The director of the Valencia Open, Juan Carlos Ferrero, values the list of confirmed players: “Once again, we have a very good lineup of players this year and I’m sure that we are going to enjoy a high level of tennis in an incomparable setting as is the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias. Additionally, it is great news that the bulk of the Spanish players are coming to play here, as they are a reference for us and we are very happy that they have chosen the Valencia Open, especially as we share the calendar with another great tournament. For the players, and I can talk from experience, it is always special to play at home, in front of the family and what they consider their fans, and we are proud of that it remains that way”, he explained. “All of them, along with the great foreign tennis players that we have available, contribute to us having eight of the top 30 players in the world, ensuring that Valencia will have top level tennis”, he added.

After six editions as an ATP World Tour 500, this year's tournament returns to the 250 category. This year the tournament will distribute € 537,000 in prize money. Another one of the changes in this 13th edition of the tournament, 7th in the Ciudad de las Artes y Ciencias, is the Center Court venue. Due to a recent report issued by the Government of Valencia, it notified the tournament that it is not possible to have the Center Court in the Agora building, as has been the case since 2009. As a result, and only for this edition, the Valencia Open 2015 Center Court will be located in a provisional indoor facility, especially built for the occasion. This new Center Court will have a capacity of 3,500 spectators and will be located a few meters from the Agora building, where last year’s Court Nº1 was located, within the Fun Park compound. “As a tournament, our priority has always been to play in the Agora. It is a unique court in the world, a symbol that has helped project the image of the tournament and Valencia all over the planet and our objective for 2016 will be to return to the Agora. Despite the difficulties that we have encountered this year we have fought for fans to be able to enjoy a great tournament with fantastic players playing on a maximum level court and with tickets at prices to suit all budgets”, stated Ferrero.

Tickets on sale from as low as 10 euros

Due to the reduction in capacity to practically half of the seats, the number of tickets on sale is more limited than ever. In addition, ticket prices for the Valencia Open 2015 will suit all budgets, and can be found from as low as 10 euros in the tournament’s sales channel, available on the website (www.valenciaopen.tennis). As usual, the goal is for the fans to enjoy tennis with the least possible economic barriers. The Fun Park, the leisure and catering areas of the tournament will, once again, be of free access, with tickets only being necessary to gain access to the two tennis courts.

Debut of the web domain

The official website of the Valencia Open has a new domain this season. As a result, and with immediate effect, the address of the website will be www.valenciaopen.tennis, leaving behind that one used to date. Thus, the Valencia Open is one of the first tournaments to use the “.tennis” domain which was recently released on the Internet.
